Advocacy Manifesto

Advocacy is the active support of a cause that is crucial for fostering change. It involves raising awareness to address educational, social, environmental, or political issues. Advocacy is a call to action. At its core, advocacy is about giving voice to the voiceless and power to the powerless.
Advocates operate on various fronts—they could be grassroots activists challenging local injustices, lawyers fighting for legal reforms, educators shaping minds to think critically about societal issues, or citizens lobbying for policy change.
A key aspect of effective advocacy is empathy. This involves understanding the struggles and perspectives of those who need advocates, and ensuring that their needs lead the agenda. Equity is also related to advocacy because it is the easiest thing to advocate for. Advocacy also involves building alliances and fostering collaboration among different communities to amplify impact.
From a design perspective, advocacy is about using your resources to stand up for an individual or cause through advertisement or production. This can include the spread of awareness through media or the manufacturing of a product to better a community.
